During the postgraduate years, my research is focused on the intracellular trafficking and processing mechanisms of β-amyloid precursor protein (APP), which plays an important role in Alzheimer’s disease. We have identified several APP-interacting proteins using yeast-two-hybrid assays, such as SCG10 and p18. We have found that SCG10 promotes non-amyloidogenic processing of APP by facilitating its anterograde trafficking, while p18 promotes amyloidogenic processing of APP by targeting it to late endosomes and lysosomes via AP-3-mediated trafficking. Our results suggest that SCG10 and p18 have a potential role in preventing and treating Alzheimer’s disease.
